Currently, India is the №1 test cricket team in the world. The Indian cricket team is strong not only in its home ground but also asserts considerable influence in overseas conditions. Let us have a look at the 10 greatest overseas victories of Team India in cricket.

Australia vs India, 2020–21

India has had successive wins in Australia. The most recent and memorable of India’s overseas wins is that of the India tour of Australia. India won the four-match test series 2–1, winning two matches and drawing one. Despite many players suffering from injuries, this Indian side comprising mostly inexperienced young players, led by Ajinkya Rahane were able to retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

India vs Pakistan, 1985

One of the most notable wins of India was against Pakistan in the finale of the Benson and Hedges World Championship of Cricket that was hosted by Australia from 17 February, 1985 to 10 March, 1985. India won the ODI tournament by eight wickets. Pakistan was reduced to 176 in the first innings, while openers K. Srikanth and Ravi Shastri scored half-centuries each to steer the team to victory.

Australia vs India, 2008

India won against Australia in the final of the Commonwealth Bank Series 2008. Three teams participated in the series — India, Australia and Sri Lanka. India won the series, having defeated Australia with a 2–0 in the finals of the series. In the first final of the series, India was able to restrict Australia to 239. Sachin Tendulkar scored a century during the chase and drove India to victory with four overs remaining. The second match saw India raking up a target of 258. Praveen Kumar picked up four wickets to restrict Australia’s chase to 249 and India won a historic series victory.

Australia vs India, 2019

This is one of the most historic series wins for India. The Indian side, led by Virat Kohli clinched both the four-match test series 2–1 and the three-match ODI series 2–1. Cheteshwar Pujara scored the highest number of runs to become the player of the test series while MS Dhoni was judged the best player of the ODI series.

Pakistan vs India, 2004

The Pakistan tour of India of 2004 is a series that is remembered by many fans fondly. Team India won the five-match ODI series 3–2 and the three-match test series 2–1 after having never won a match on Pakistani soil.

India vs Australia, 1998

Team India defeated Australia in the quarter-final of the Willis International Cup 1998–99 in Bangabandhu National Stadium of Dhaka. India raked up 308 in the first innings and was able to restrict Australia’s chase to 263 in the second innings. Sachin scored a century and picked up four wickets.

England vs India, 2002

India raked up a pivotal overseas series win against England in its 2002 tour of England. The tour consisted of a triangular ODI series that was held between India, England and Sri Lanka. India beat England in the final to clinch the trophy of the triangular series and drew the four-match test series 1–1 against England.

Pakistan vs India, 2002

India won a historic win against Pakistan in the 2002–03 cricketing season in the 2003 World Cup in South Africa. Pakistan had won the toss and decided to bat first. Pakistan put up a total of 273 riding on Saeed Anwar’s brilliant 101. India cruised to victory riding on Tendulkar’s 98, Yuvraj Singh’s unbeaten half-century, and Rahul Dravid’s 44.

New Zealand vs India, 1968

India toured New Zealand in February-March 1968 for a four-match test series. The side won three of the four test matches, thus creating history. New Zealand, the hosts, could only manage one win in the series. India won the first match by five wickets, while New Zealand won the second one by six wickets. India registered two successive wins after that by 8 wickets and 272 runs respectively, and clinched a historic victory on overseas soil.

Zimbabwe vs India, 2005

India toured Zimbabwe for the Videocon Tri-series 2005 and two tests in August and September 2005. The tri-series was played between India, New Zealand, and hosts Zimbabwe, which India won. India also won both the tests with its paceman Irfan Pathan picking up 21 wickets. It won the first by an innings and 90 runs and the second test by 10 wickets.
